Philanthropy is about more than elite gifts to major institutions. Generosity and giving are part of our lived experiences, the social fabric of our families and communities, and the way we try to make the world a better place.

As a professor of nonprofit leadership at Seattle University, I examine the intersection of gender and philanthropy and giving by women and LGBTQ donors.  I am also interested in inclusive and equitable approaches to giving, fundraising, and board governance.

My work demonstrates a more nuanced and broad understanding of what constitutes philanthropy, who is considered a philanthropist, and how our identities influence how and why we give.
